We’ve had a wonderful year with the Pepperdine students (Lausanne campus). There are 55 students and I’d guess about 40 regularly attended the house church that Susan Giboney, visiting Pepperdine faculty, hosted.
Wife welcomed 10 students a week to our home for meals. The last meal she opened it up to all who wanted to come, [...]

We’ve got a second exchange student, but only for 2 weeks. Alex is here from Zurich and he’s working with a Christian book editor just to see what it’s like. It is a mini-apprenticeship where he’ll get a taste of life on the other side of studies. Joel, our Basel exchange student, has been bouncing [...]

We have had many guests these last weeks. Daughter (who is NOT a guest) was back from the Marseilles Church Internship. She is doing great and has a busy beginning of the year ahead of her. What a pleasure to have her back!
While our exchange student was away, Dan, a Pepperdine student who needed a [...]

April 26: I woke up on Saturday morning at 6:45 AM. Our company had already left. Actually, this was the first time we’d had folks stay with us without us seeing them. The Marseilles church football team (soccer to USAers) arrived after midnight and left around 6:00 AM, I think. They were welcomed by Sons [...]

You can read here about the dollar’s decline and its effect on European missions among the evangelical denominations. BTW, we hardly ever go to McDonald’s, not for any reason other than we just don’t like it that much.
About hospitality… Yes, Sandra, MOST people are welcome. You, especially. We love guests! Yet sometimes I have trouble [...]

We enjoy visits. In fact, let me just say, on the record, that most of you are welcome to come to our place anytime.
We had a wonderful visit with the children of some schoolmates from ACU days. I haven’t seen the Powell’s (parents) for many years, but Wife has been able to hook up with [...]

5 minutes from our house, 10,000 youth gathered for a New Year’s Eve party. They’d each paid $36.00 to get into the 5 dance halls where DJ’s animated the evening. Even though professionals had been hired to assure security, there was much fighting outside the halls and in the streets. A riot started in the [...]

There are some 40 students who are participating in this years Pepperdine program here in Lausanne. 4 or 5 come to church on Sunday mornings, a brave crew who sings along in French, praying and listening to a worship which is indeed foreign to them.
About 2 months ago, Wife started inviting students over on Monday [...]

The word “hospitality†in our New Testament comes from the Greek PHILOXENIA. I know. I looked it up. I really did.
It’s evident that words evolve over time. This word at one time meant “affection for the foreigner, for the strangerâ€. Yet it is consistently translated “hospitalityâ€, a word defined in most our churches as “having [...]
