Searching

A little girl is searching the aisles for her mommy while a young man examines the labels for the perfect wine for the perfect meal. An old man goes looking for his medicine at the nearby pharmacy while his wife searches for her bus card in her bottomless handbag.

Everyone is searching for something. Yet not all “searches” have the same value. If the bottle of wine is corked, the evening will still take place. But if the little girl doesn’t find her mother, or if the old man picks up the wrong prescription, the consequences will be terrible.

So what are you looking for? And if you don’t find it, what will be the consequences? For what if, just what if you found love and job and money and family, all those important things, and you missed life? Would that be tragic? Or would it just be the norm for another normal week?

Jesus made it so clear to those who were searching: Seek first the kingdom of God and his justice… How sad it would be to find everything else, and miss the kingdom of God. How sad it would be to miss… Life!

I wonder how many people are eagerly waiting for the kingdom without realizing that they are sitting right outside the gates…and they are wide open.

    Wonderful, wonderful thoughts.

What intrigues me is the notion of seeking the justice of God. Exactly what does that look like? See, I’ve given you the inspiration for another post!

…………………..then there are some who feel like they have spent most of their lives seeking first the kingdon, putting the things first that should be first, and have missed out on not only life, but life, too. I guess probably those who might feel that way haven’t really done as much kingdon-seeking as they think they have, and maybe haven’t missed out on as much of life as they fear they may have. But wouldn’t it be terrible to miss out on both, because of resentment?

BTW, your words today sounded very much like words that might be uttered by one of my other favorite preachers! :)

    AND…

What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses or forfeits his soul?

You’ve said so much with so few words.

    Thanks,

    Amen.

I notice some mold in the shower this morning and I am reminded how things rust, collect dust, and does not last forever. We can keep filling ourselves up with other things, but we are still left empty and hungry for more. Does not matter who you are, everyone is searching.

We’re packing to move … every day is a reminder of how blessed we are and how much we could bless others by giving away much of it!
