Snow shoes

A couple of weeks ago, my mountaineering buddy Philippe and I took a group of 5 Pepperdine students (picture) snow-shoeing in the Valais Alps in the region above Sierre called Vercorin.

Unfortunately, I told the students they needed to be in good shape to do the 10 to 12 kilometers we’d planned.

They finished the hike without any problem and enjoyed their tea and hot chocolate at the lodge while they waited for me to finish…

But, I DID finish…

To finish is to win. Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

What a beautiful picture! I like to look at pictures of snow! :) In our sunny Mid-South region, most of the time that’s all we get to do is look at pictures. However, on February 2nd, which was my last day at work, I got up to an absolutely beautiful, if short-lived, snow. It was gone before noon, but it sure was a pretty sight. I continue to believe God provided it just for me!

Glad you finished. I’d have hated it if you hadn’t! :)

Reminds me of when I first started teaching. We used to give our middle School basketball team 4 points for each basket during our annual Faculty vs. Boys Team game just so the score wasn’t a complete blowout.

Now days we have to cheat, I mean alter some of the scoring and rules to keep things close so we (Faculty) aren’t blown out of the gym.

Well I’m glad you finished. Of course the question is what motivated you to finish? To not look like a fool or to complete the course that you started?

In these type of snow, hiking, climbing expedition it’s not such a bad thing to be a little farther back from the main pack.
