Teen retreat (encore)

How do you tell if you had a great teenage weekend retreat or not?

  • You could count the number of wounded (one broken arm, one foot in the eye).
  • How ‘bout the number of conversions? (0 and still counting).
  • Maybe the hours of sleep you got per 24h? (outside of the Bible studies, about 6.5 hours).
  • The number of baskets you scored in a row without missing during the big match? (4).
  • Or the quantity of mushrooms picked? (3 pounds fresh, 5 ounces dry).
  • The number of new songs learned? (5).
  • The number actually sung? (easily 150).
  • Kilos gained? (1).
  • Kids disciplined? (0).
  • Smiling faces? (44).
  • Goodbye tears shed? (100s).
  • Prayers said? (1000s).
  • Lives touched? (only God knows).
My favorite measure? It was over way too fast.

Fortunately, God doesn’t “track” success as we do. Sounds like what needed to happen and what was most important actually did happen. Glad you’re home safely.

Sounds like you had a week of Bible Camp in a weekend.

I’m glad you enjoyed the retreat.

One day, I’ll have to tell you about the weekend Doris and her husband and I helped chaperone a group of teens from church on a canoe trip on the Buffalo River in Arkansas. I remember promising God if He’d get me out of that canoe, He’d never have to get me out of another one!!! :)

Yes, when the time flies after what seemed like an eternity getting there is a pretty good gauge of success.

Thanks for sharing this and for using God’s measurements.

Bless you. I loved your measuring stick…sometimes we forget about the really cool stuff because we’re so worried about impressing others with our “work”.
