The rebirth of the Thank You Card
The young lady at the Geneva church handed me the envelope and said “sorry” for not having delivered it earlier. She didn’t know we’d be gone to the USA. She said it was to express their thanks…
As I drove home that night, I opened the envelope at the first red light. Inside was, surprise, a Thank You Card signed by 11 families simply thanking us for what we’ve been called to do, and even receive a salary for doing. Each family had written something like:

Thanks for all you do. We know it is for the glory of God, but we are touched by your love. May God keep you and may he bless you…
11 times I read words of appreciation. And I was filled with joy. (Still am…)
I’m not sure, but I think the funeral for the Thank You Card was held some time in the Spring of 2001. But these 11 families missed that ceremony and blessed our lives through a note of sincere appreciation.
What now? I’ll pin it up on my bulletin board next to the other Thank You Card I got in 1997. Then I’ll fill up my fountain pen. Without a doubt, there are a few people I need to thank.

Something so simple as “thank you” and “I appreciate what you do” can sure add a warm glow that lasts for a long time.

I don’t think you need to thank me for anything, but I’ll give you my address if you just want to send a handwritten card!

My Bible (as Greg knows) is stuffed with thank-you cards that have been given to me over the years at church and camp. Every now and then I’ll re-read them (never during a sermon of course) to get a much needed boost and reminder for how important relationships are to me.

It is nice to be appreciated. It is better to have the appreciation in written form. I am curious though, as I’ve wrestled with this dilemma. Is it necessary to send a thank you card for the thank you card? And thus do you need to send a thank you card as a thank you for the thank you card you received for the thank you card?

Excuse me Brady, I’ll take this one -
Randy, no “thank you.”

Actually, Randy, it depends on how good the Thank You Card really was. If it went above and beyond the simple Thank You, then you should thank the person for their thankfulness. Some of us have to reimburse the person who thanked us, but I think I’m getting off the subject.
